Rehearsal Dinner

Friday, May 22, 2015

5:30 PM - 9:00 PM

SoMa StrEat Food Park

428 11th Street

San Francisco, CA

Let's enjoy some informal social time before the big day!

We will be gathering at SoMa StrEat Foods, the permanent food truck park nestled between the South of Market and Mission neighborhoods.

The food truck craze has been in full swing in San Francisco for several years.  SoMa StrEat Foods is a permanent installation where trucks rotate in and out frequently.

You can see a list of their vendors here.

We have their main indoor space reserved for our party and will be serving beer and wine. Food tickets will be provided so you can choose from any of the offerings in the park that night.

It should be a great way to see old friends and perhaps make some new ones.

Dress Tips

Dress for the event is smart casual.

While our dining space is enclosed, the trucks are outdoors.  Plan for chilly.

Transportation

There is no onsite parking at the food park.  There is a public parking lot nearby, however.

By far the easiest solution, and most sensible if you are planning to partake, is using taxis or Uber to get there.

Fun Fact

While food trucks are a relatively new phenomenon in the States, for many years in Tahiti food trucks known as "roulottes" have been gathering near Papeete harbor nightly. While visitng in 2007, the Paul and Brian joined the locals in sampling everything from island cuisine to French bistro staples.

Ceremony and Reception

Saturday, May 23, 2015

11:00 AM

First Unitarian Universalist Church

1187 Franklin Street

San Francisco, CA

Built in 1889 on a site in use since the Gold Rush, the main sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church envelopes our ceremony in the spirt and history of San Francisco.

Under the glow from the magnificent stained glass windows, the Rev. Maxwell Grant will officiate a reverent, yet inclusive ceremony.  The music will feature the church's immense pipe organ and will be performed by dear friends of the family.

Following the wedding, we will gather for the reception in the church center's Thomas Starr King room.  We will be serving a light lunch of made-to-order crepes.  Music from a local string trio will complete the perfect backdrop as we spend the afternoon in joyful celebration.

Transportation

This being San Francisco, the Church does not have parking; however, there is a garage nearby.

For all the wedding events, we are strongly encouraging using taxis and Uber whenever possible.

Dress Tips

Formal morning dress.

For the gentlemen, morning coats would be most welcome but hard to track down.  Suits and ties are a splendid alternative.

Ladies are encouraged to wear hats!

The little ones should be as dressy as you can reasonably get them.

Fun Fact

The crepes we are serving for lunch are the local cuisine of Brittany, the region in northwest France where Paul spent a year abroad, and where he and Rev. Grant were classmates.

After Party

Saturday, May 23, 2015

7:30 PM: group photos

8:00 PM: cocktails and dancing

St. Francis Yacht Club

Starting Line Room

99 Yacht Road

San Francisco, CA

Dance the night away along San Francisco Bay!

Fog permitting, you will be treated to stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Inside we will provide a hosted bar and hors d'oeuvres.  Dancing and the cake cutting will round out the evening.

We hope you can join us for an elegant ending to our wedding day.

Transportation

There is plentiful parking at the venue.     Nevertheless, please consider using taxis and Uber whenever possible.

Dress Tips

Black tie (optional) for the gentlemen and evening wear for the ladies.

Fun Fact

The St. Francis Yacht Club was formed so there could still be a yacht club in San Francisco after the San Francisco Yacht Club moved its clubhouse out of San Francisco across the bay to Belvedere.  Confused?  So are we.

Farewell Lunch

Sunday, May 24

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Gotts Roadside

San Francisco Ferry Building

at the foot of Market Street

Fresh air and great food!  We will reserve as many tables as possible so you can swing by at your leisure for an al fresco, no-host meal. It will be a chance to bid farewell to your relatives, old friends, and new friends as we bring the wedding festivities to a close.

Dress Tips

Dress for the event is casual.

Check the weather before coming out. It could be anywhere from breezy and chilly to very warm.

Transportation

The Ferry Building is accessible via the Embarcadero Station (BART and Muni), as well as the historic F-Market street cars.

Taxis or Uber are always a good choice.

If you are planning to drive, there are plentiful parking lots in the area.

Fun Fact

For much of the past century, the majority of the Ferry Building was closed to the public. In the early 2000s, it underwent a complete renovation and was transformed into the world class food emporium that it is today. In October 2002, shortly before its grand opening, it was the site of the San Francisco Giants' World Series Gala. Paul's mom, Joyce, was able to bring the family along to this amazing event.

Transportation

Our recommended modes of transportation are local taxis and Uber.

Uber gives you arrival estimates and the ability to track your car as it approaches.  This is a huge benefit when you need to arrive somewhere at a precise time.  If you would like to sign up for an Uber account, please use our invitation code:  https://www.uber.com/invite/uberpaulandbrian

You can also take the BART trains from the airport into several stations in San Francisco.  The BART web site has helpful trip planners.

If you would like to brave the maddening roads of San Francisco, car rental is available directly at SFO via the Airtrain. Parking can be challenging and often expensive, however.  If you are staying in a vacation rental, make sure you determine the status of any parking included with the rental as street parking is scarce in many neighborhoods.

Lodging

San Francisco features all the major hotel chains, most of which still have availability.

In addition, there are many reasonably priced smaller hotels on Lombard Street.  These are only a moderate walk from the after party venue. If you are from the area but too far away for a reasonable taxi fare, this may be a good option.

Finally, another lodging possibility would be airbnb or vacation rentals in the City or nearby.

Dressing Tips

Rehearsal Dinner

Dress is smart casual.

We will be at one of the food truck parks in San Francisco with a private enclosed space.  The food trucks are outdoors, however, so please plan accordingly.

Please note the terrain, uneven asphalt, might be difficult for high heels.

Ceremony and Reception

Dressy day wear.

For the gentlemen, morning coats would be most welcome but hard to track down.  Light weight suits and ties are a splendid alternative.

Hats for the ladies are strongly encouraged!

The little ones should be as dressy as you can reasonably get them.

After Party

Black tie (optional) dress.

Evening wear for the ladies.

For the gentlemen, either black tie or dark suits and ties.

Farewell Brunch

Casual dress.

This event will have outdoor seating at the Ferry Building, so an extra layer would be helpful to have on hand.
